Trump says US to 'finish the job' in Iran in 'maybe two weeks'

Washington, 1 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - President Donald Trump has said he expects the US to "finish the job" in Iran "within maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer," in comments at the White House.

Asked by a reporter when the US would be "gone or done with the war" in Iran, Trump answered: "I think two or three weeks."

"We will leave because there's no reason for us to do this," Trump continued.

The president later expanded, saying that while regime change in Tehran "was not one of the things I had as a goal," he did have one goal.

"I had one goal, no nuclear weapon and that goal has been obtained," Trump said. "They will not have nuclear weapons but we are finishing the job and I think within maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer to do the job but we want to knock out every single thing they have."

"It's possible that we will make a deal before that," Trump added.

The US and Israel have been attacking Iran since February 28, while Iran is carrying out retaliatory strikes against Israel and countries in the region that have a US military presence.
