Report: More than 1,500 killed in Iran since start of the war

Tehran, 22 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - More than 1,500 people have been killed in Iran since the war began three weeks ago, state broadcaster IRIB reported on Saturday, citing the health ministry.

The latest toll came as Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Israel and the United States would "significantly escalate" their attacks on Iran in the coming days. Just hours earlier Washington indicated it was weighing ending the conflict.

Iranian broadcaster IRIB reported that more than 200 people under the age of 18 were among those killed. Another 21,000 people had been injured, IRIB wrote on X.

Some 220 medical centres have had to be evacuated, with 21 medical workers killed, the broadcaster added.
