Parliament extends state of crisis on oil and oil derivatives until July 20

Skopje, 16 April 2026 (MIA) - Due to continued risks of disruption in the supply of oil and oil derivatives, Parliament approved Thursday an extension of the state of crisis until July 20, 2026.

The decision will be implemented starting on April 21.

MPs were informed that the extension of the state of crisis is conditioned by the unfavorable international security and energy situation following the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and the serious disruptions in the transport of crude oil, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s key energy corridors.

The Government decided last month to cut the VAT rate for fuels from 18 to 10 percent and release mazut quantities from the state reserves, as well as declare a 30-day state of crisis so that institutions can efficiently implement the required measures.

With Thursday's vote, Parliament authorized the Government and the competent institutions to continue their coordinated management of the situation and the implementation of measures to ensure a secure energy supply.
