Berlin, 26 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) — Ethiopian marathon runner Shewarge Alene has died at the age of 30, the Ethiopian Athletics Federation confirmed to dpa on Thursday.

She complained of heart problems during a training session in Addis Ababa and passed away shortly afterwards, said Yohannes Engida, the federation's secretary general.

The athlete was buried on Wednesday at a cemetery in a suburb of the capital.

She had won the Stockholm Marathon on May 31.
