Czechia increases quotas for foreign workers, including workers from North Macedonia

Skopje, 14 December 2023 (MIA) – The Czech Government has approved a new proposal increasing the quotas for workers from abroad, including from North Macedonia, while also reducing limits for Ukrainians.

The Government plans to raise the number of work visas for people working in agriculture, forestry and the food industry from 1.500 to 2.500. The change applies to workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, and North Macedonia.

At the beginning of the year, the Czech Government announced its aims to increase the number of foreign workers in country by 20.000 annually, via its new visa measures.

Amid a persistent labor shortage, the country’s Labor Ministry wants to attract more foreign workers. On Wednesday, Czech officials approved raising the application quota for Filipinos seeking business visas or employment cards from 5.000 to 10.300.

Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný said the country lacks workers in agriculture, especially during the harvesting season. The construction sector is also short of around 60.000 workers, while transport businesses warn of a deficit of 25.000 to 28.000 professional drivers within 2024.
