Skopje, 20 February 2026 (MIA) - Heavy rainfall and snowfall over the past 24 hours have caused rivers to swell at several locations in the country. In Bitola, a landslide occurred on the E-65 motorway and the Siva river overflowed near the Heraclea site, the Crisis Management Center (CMC) said Friday.
The CMC said it has registered increased river levels in the municipalities of Kumanovo, Lipkovo, and Staro Nagorichane, but noted there is currently no danger of flooding. In Kratovo, occasional rainfall has raised the levels of the Kratovska and Kriva rivers, though without overflow.
In Novaci, the level of the Crna river is around 280 centimeters, while in Demir Hisar the same river has also risen, but without significant flooding.
“In Kichevo, 250 people – 63 families – have been evacuated and are being provided with food, water, and essential support. Municipal service teams are working to clear and deepen the riverbed of the Zajashka river and to clean the sewage network. Fire protection teams are pumping water from basements on several streets following residents’ reports,” the CMC said.
