Bangkok, 14 January 2026 (dpa/MIA) - A passenger train in north-eastern Thailand was struck when a construction crane collapsed onto it on Wednesday morning, killing at least 22 people and injuring around 70 others, local media reported, citing authorities.
The accident occurred in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, roughly 230 kilometres north-east of Bangkok.
The massive steel crane, used for railway construction, collapsed just as the train passed, according to Thai news outlet Khaosod.
The impact derailed several carriages, trapping passengers in the wreckage. A fire reportedly broke out at the scene. Early reports indicate the crane was part of a high-speed rail project.
Thailand's state railway operator SRT said there were 195 people on board the train.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse.
