Unvaccinated account for 78% of cases, 80% of hospitalizations: ministry
Skopje, 24 September 2021 (MIA) – A large percentage of unvaccinated citizens have tested positive for COVID-19 in North Macedonia - 78 percent of confirmed cases weren’t vaccinated and 80 percent of hospitalizations were also unvaccinated patients, shows an analysis covering the period from August 6 to September 23.
In the same time period, there were a total of 32,818 new infections and of those, 22 percent were fully vaccinated (7,248), said the Health Ministry on Friday adding that only 20 percent of all hospitalizations at the moment involve fully vaccinated citizens.
“Fatality rate is drastically large among the unvaccinated,” it is noted
A total of 1,033 deaths were recorded from August 6 until September 23. “Of those, 888 patients were unvaccinated, 14 percent had received shots,” says the analysis.
According to the report, the fatalities had more than two pre-existing conditions.
The patients were vaccinated with all types of vaccines the country is offering as well as patients who got vaccinated abroad with Modern and Johnson & Johnson shots.
“The vaccines we have provided are safe. We urge the citizens to get vaccinated because it is the only way to achieve collective immunity,” said the Health Ministry.
