President sees possible break of impasse in creative interpretation of Negotiating Framework and jurisdiction of historical commission

Skopje, 14 May 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Wednesday with the UK Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Dame Karen Pierce, seeing her visit as a clear indicator over the British interest and commitment to the Western Balkans.

Siljanovska Davkova said progress should be merit-based and focused on meeting the Copenhagen criteria, while highlighting the destructiveness of bilateralizing the EU negotiation process under the threat of veto, the President's Office said in a press release.

The President briefed the UK Envoy over the fatigue of the Macedonian citizens from the numerous precedents, blockades and double standards, noting that denying one's national and cultural identity goes against the European fundamental values and principles.

Siljanovska Davkova sees a possible break of the impasse in creative interpretation of Negotiating Framework and the jurisdiction of joint commission on historical and educational issues.

In this context, Dame Pierce voiced her understanding over the need to overcome the country's Euro-integration blockade.

Interlocutors agreed that British-Macedonian cooperation has been a success, and expressed commitment for its enhancement, while expecting important benefits for the region from the coming Berlin Process Summit in London, reads the press release.
