Skopje, 14 May 2025 (MIA) - The President of the European Council, António Costa, is set to pay a one-day visit to Skopje on Thursday, where he will meet with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference, the Government said in a press release.

On Wednesday, PM Mickoski told journalists he would accompany Costa on his flight from Skopje to Tirana, where the EU Council President will host a dinner for the Western Balkan leaders, while on Friday the two will participate in the European Political Community meeting in the Albanian capital.

Costa’s visit to Skopje is a part of his Western Balkan trip, as part of which he previously visited Belgrade and Sarajevo. The goal of his trip is to reaffirm the EU's commitment to the region, and the prospect of the Western Balkan countries' integration in the EU.  

"Enhancing cooperation with the Western Balkans is a top political priority for the EU and for me personally," Costa said ahead of the trip to the Western Balkans.  

He pointed out that he is visiting the region to discuss with Western Balkan leaders persisting challenges and showcase that the EU stands ready to help.
