Skopje, 14 May 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Wednesday with new UK Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Dame Karen Pierce, wishing her a successful term and expecting the sincere friendship between the two countries to further strengthen.

Speaker Gashi said the countries foster decades-long excellent bilateral ties, both in political and economic terms, and thanked the United Kingdom for its commitment to enhancing the security, stability and prosperity of North Macedonia and the region. He also saluted UK's decision to put the prosperity of the Western Balkans as one of the priorities of its foreign policy, the Parliament said in a press release.

Envoy Pierce said trade relations between the two countries are excellent, with a number of British investments present in North Macedonia, which has a positive impact on general economic ties. She added that the UK is currently presiding over the Berlin Process and continues to support the efforts for European integration of North Macedonia and other countries in the area.

Interlocutors also agreed over the importance of continued parliamentary cooperation and regular communication between MP groups, thus enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, reads the press release.
