Skopje, 25 April 2023 (MIA) - Sophie and Mitre Kutanovski are the recipients of the inaugural Recognition awarded to diaspora representatives by President Stevo Pendarovski.
The recognition is awarded for the Kutanovski's contribution in stimulating the economic development of Radozhda village and the surrounding region, continuation of the "Atanas Bliznakoff" programme and scholarships for hundreds of students from vulnerable groups, the President's Office said in a press release.
The Recognition is set up by Macedonia 2025 - Macedonia branch, under the auspices of the President. It recognizes renowned individuals from the diaspora for their contribution in the maintenance and promotion of Macedonian historic, cultural and spiritual traditional and values, as well as strengthening of the state capacities both in the country and abroad.
"This recognition validates the contribution of the diaspora representatives, who have significantly contributed, either individually or through their organizations, to the economic and societal development, education, academic-research activities, volunteering, culture and art in the Republic of North Macedonia. This is a remarkable initiative that will deepen the ties of the Macedonian diaspora with the motherland and I am honored to be the patron of this recognition," said President Pendarovski at Tuesday's event.
The President expressed hope that the recognition would be an additional incentive for members of the Macedonian diaspora to continue to maintain ties with their homeland, actively taking part in its development and progress.
"Macedonians who live here know there are many prejudices and excessive expectations over the role that the Macedonian diaspora should have in the country's development. We are also aware of the stereotypes among Macedonians in the diaspora related to the conduct and expectations of their compatriots in the homeland. Therefore, the role of organizations such as 'Macedonia 2025' is very significant. Besides bringing people closer, it also offers training and modules for mutual cooperation among Macedonians wherever they might be," underlined Pendarovski.
