President Pendarovski attends MIA's 24th birthday celebration
Skopje, 8 October 2022 (MIA) - President Stevo Pendarovski visited the Media Information Agency (MIA) on the occasion of the news agency's 24th anniversary, which was marked yesterday with a reception and a photo exhibition.
MIA published the first news item on 30 September 1998, which kick started the agency’s regular production and distribution of information to users.
MIA is a public news service, established under a Macedonian Parliament’s decision in February 1992.
MIA has about 100 employees – journalists, correspondents from the country and abroad, cameramen, photo-reporters, administration and logistics.
MIA produces and distributes about 400 news and other media products per day in Macedonian, English, Albanian language to domestic printed and electronic media, foreign diplomatic and other offices, missions to Macedonia, media in Macedonian language abroad, Macedonian embassies and other organisations, institutions.
MIA also provides special thematic sub-services, daily and weekly bulletins, and also has a photo service available at MIA’s website www.mia.mk.
MIA has launched the video-service that includes video pieces from events and statements, but also live streaming at its website and Facebook page.
MIA has also opened its journalism school in order to contribute to media literacy and training of young journalists from other media and students from journalism faculties.
MIA is a member of the Association of Southeast European News Agencies – ABNA and the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies – BSANNA.
It is also part of the information pools of: AGERPRES (Romania), BTA (Bulgaria), ATA (Albania), TANJUG (Serbia), MINA (Montenegro), FENA and SRNA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), STA (Slovenia), HINA (Croatia), ANA-MPA (Greece), ANADOLY AGENCY (Turkey), APA (Austria), EFE (Spain), UKRINFORM (Ukraine)…
MIA is cooperating with large news agencies – European Pressphoto Agency-EPA, dpa (Germany), BBC (UK), Xinhua (China), IRNA (Iran), Yonhap (Korea), while MIA’s services are used by Deutsche Welle, Radio Free Europe, Voice of America etc.
