Skopje, 25 October 2023 (MIA) – Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said Wednesday there are no indications that the security situation in the country is deteriorating.

In answer to a question related to recent reports by certain Italian media that there are around 200 Islamist terror cells in the region, Spasovski said the fact that not a single citizen has been joined a foreign armed group since 2016 is indicative of the Ministry’s work on the issue.

According to Spasovski police actions since 2015 have shown that there are citizens who were radicalized in the conflict zones in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, but, he said, the security services are not only working on their resocialization, but also to ensure that there are no opportunities for the radicalization of new individuals.

“On a daily basis, for years, we’ve been in constant communication regarding these people, from the field of violent extremism or radicalism. The entire situation is under control, and we have no indications that security is deteriorating,” said the Interior Minister.
