Commission spokesperson says EU ready to help after Kochani fire 

Skopje, 16 March 2025 (MIA) - The European Union stands ready to help North Macedonia deal with the consequences of the deadly fire at the nightclub in Kochani, a European Commission spokesperson told MIA.

“We stand ready to help, if requested, with our civil protection mechanism,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier on Sunday, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, also said the EU is ready to provide support over the tragedy in Kochani.

“A tragedy in Kochani, North Macedonia, where a devastating nightclub fire has resulted in numerous casualties and injures. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the emergency teams. The EU is ready to provide support. We are in solidarity with North Macedonia,” Lahbib said in a post on X.   

The fire at the nightclub in Kochani claimed the lives of at least 59 people and left 155 injured.
