Police arrest Albanian national suspected of arson in Gostivar region
Skopje, 4 August 2021 (MIA) – Police arrested a 32-year old man from Albania, who has been staying illegally in the country, after being suspected of setting fire near Gostivar’s Pozharane.
A man is also suspected of arson after reportedly setting fire in Staro Nagorichane, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Wednesday.
“Due to swift intervention of police patrol and the Skopje fire brigade, a fire was prevented from spreading yesterday overlooking the village of Blace near Katlanovo. Two people are suspected of arson and investigation has been launched,” said the press release.
The Interior Ministry urges people to adhere to the ban of forest movement and to refrain from setting waste on fire, throwing cigarette butts and leaving glass bottles that could cause fire after being left in direct sunlight for too long.
If convicted, arsonists could face up to 8 years in jail according to the Criminal Code.
