Tetovo, 19 September 2022 (MIA) — In response to a reporter’s question about how the government would deal with the likely increase in air pollution due to people heating their homes as cheaply as possible amid the energy crisis this winter, Minister of Environment Naser Nuredini urged citizens not to burn hazardous materials because "if we burn anything we can find to heat our homes," he said, "we will be polluting our children and families," MIA's Tetovo correspondent reports. Environment Minister Nuredini spoke to the press in Kamenjane near Tetovo, where he was inspecting a newly reconstructed water pipeline. “This does not mean that we all have the need to burn anything we can find to heat our homes,” he said. “We urge all citizens: Let’s be more efficient in saving energy. It is cheaper than using electricity more and pellets et cetera,” he said. “But this means that if we are using biomass for heating, we should be careful about its quality and not burn anything we can find. I think we are aware of this and we will take care of our environment. “If we burn anything we can find to heat our homes," he said, "we will be polluting our children and families." The environment minister also recalled what the central government had done to help lower air pollution. “What have we done so far? We have given subsidies for inverters et cetera, but we now have a Law on Ambient Air that says that municipalities together with the central government should take measures if there is major pollution in those municipalities,” Nuredini said. “This is the reality. We are unfortunately in an energy crisis. Not only in our country but also across Europe,” he said. mr/
