Kovachevski-Sarrazin: Constitutional changes - decision to be part of EU

Skopje, 11 September 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met Monday with Germany's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, discussing current topics of interest for both countries.

Special Envoy Sarrazin reaffirmed the German government's strong support to North Macedonia progress on the Euro-integration path and Berlin's expectations for swift advancement on that path, the Government said in a press release.

Kovachevski and Sarrazin agreed that the decision on the constitutional changes is a decision to be part of the EU.

PM Kovachevski thanked Germany for its continued support, highlighting the German Bundestag's resolution that reaffirmed the strong support to North Macedonia's EU accession, the Macedonian identity, language, culture and history as part of the European mosaic. In addition, the PM voiced expectation that Germany continues to play a key role in the European future of the Western Balkans.

Kovachevski expressed optimism that all political parties would unite in securing the required broad support around the realization of the common strategic objective - EU membership - as well as realization of the reform agenda.

Interlocutors agreed that North Macedonia is facing a historic moment that inevitably leads to accelerated economic development and creation of a prosperous European country that provides better life for all citizens, reads the press release.
