Skopje, 14 August 2023 (MIA) – A 42-year-old citizen of Veles has tested positive for Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, said the Public Health Institute (PHI) on Monday. The patient is currently hospitalized at the University Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje and is in a stable condition.

The head of the University Clinic for Infectious Diseases, Milena Stevanovikj, is set to hold a press conference at 1:30pm.

The Institute said the patient reported having fever, headaches, body aches, malaise and excessive sweating. He was initially hospitalized at the General Hospital in Veles.

“In the late evening hours of August 12, the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Department at the PHI was notified of a positive case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. The person in question is a 42-year-old male citizen of Veles, transferred from the General Hospital in Veles on the same day. His symptoms began 5 days before his check-up at the General Hospital in Veles,” said the PHI.

The Center for Public Health in Veles was immediately tasked with forming a team set to carry out an epidemiological survey of the infected, assess the risk in the family and the individuals who had contact with the infected in the health institutions.
