Skopje, 12 May 2025 (MIA) — President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova handed out Monday awards at this year's Macedonia2025 summit to Macedonian diaspora community members for their contributions to Macedonian society, health care, education, science and culture, according to an official press release.
Macedonian American biochemist Svetlana Mojsov, who teaches at New York's Rockefeller University, received an award "for her extraordinary achievements in science, which have left a deep and lasting mark on modern medicine," the release said.
LetzCare's president Safet Alili, on behalf of the Luxembourg-based charity, received an award "for extraordinary support and medical aid."
Siljanovska Davkova said awarding diaspora community members for their achievements was "an ethical and moral act of valuing good deeds and proving our unbreakable unity."
The president also met with Macedonia2025 board members, who highlighted the need of protecting the Macedonian identity by cherishing the sense of national belonging and handing it down to future generations.
In her remarks at the closing of the summit, Siljanovska Davkova said Macedonia2025's activities were "unifying, fertile, successful and useful."
She also said a diaspora council was being established as an institutional body for cooperating and communicating with diaspora community members to strengthen ties with them and integrate them into Macedonian society. mr/
