Tetovo, 12 May 2025 (MIA) — The Alliance of Albanians political party is leaving the government coalition to go into opposition, AA leader and outgoing health minister Arben Taravari told a press conference held after a meeting of the party's top officials Monday evening.
"Today, the Alliance of Albanians unanimously decided to go into opposition," Taravari said, adding that AA's members had shaken up the ethnic Albanian bloc "after 20 years and we are very proud of that."
"Unfortunately, however, we did not deliver on the changes we had promised.
"That is why we have decided to go back to the citizens and ask for their trust at the local elections in October," he said.
According to Taravari, members of the public, especially Albanians, were profoundly unhappy with the way the Worth It coalition ruled as part of the current government.
As examples that had upset the ethnic Albanian voters he listed the law on the Balancer affirmative action tool and the treatment of Albanians in institutions.
He also said "Macedonia's European path is also very important" to his party.
So far, Taravari added, the AA had not made any deals with DUI although there had been some communication between them.
He also said that despite going into opposition, he would meet with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski as well as with the leader of the opposition SDSM Venko Filipche.
Deputy Prime Minister Arben Fetai did not attend the meeting. According to Taravari, Fetai was on a trip. Another AA member and a Member of Parliament had to leave the meeting to go be with his family, he said. mr/
