SSM's Peshevski: Inflation seriously eroding wages, workers losing purchasing power
Skopje, 7 November 2022 (MIA) - Inflation is seriously eroding wages and workers are losing purchasing power over the funds they receive as wages, says the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia all the while not ruling out the possibility of strikes again.
In a statement to MIA, the vice-president of SSM, Ivan Peshevski says that the minimum expenses of a four-member family can no longer be satisfied with even one average and one minimum basket.
- SSM constantly calculates the trade union consumption basket, which with the inflation of 19.8 percent reached MKD 51,514 for October. If we compare it with October 2020, we will see that it has increased by MKD 17,000. This means that inflation is seriously eroding wages and workers are losing purchasing power on the funds they receive as wages, and we believe that as SSM, despite the fact that our anti-crisis measures were not accepted, we will again take steps for stronger pressure and again going out on the streets and expressing dissatisfaction, says Peshevski.
It has been announced that on Wednesday, the Presidency of the SSM will meet as the highest body of the union, where all possible forms and pressures that will be taken will be seriously considered.
The State Statistics Office released on Monday the data that the cost of living in October compared to October last year recorded an increase of 19.8 percent, and retail prices increased by 15.4 percent. dk/ba/
