Spasovski: Corruption detection increases by 50 percent in 2022

Skopje, 22 May 2023 (MIA) - Statistical data shows that corruption detection has increased by 50 percent in 2022, says Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski.

MoI Spasovski was quizzed by Kanal 5 if latest arrests of employees in the Army and a public institution for taking bribes meant that fight against corruption is gaining pace.

"This means strengthening of the public awareness on the fight against corruption, since the collaboration between the citizens and the police is what matters the most. These arrests are a classical example of how citizens should work with the police," says Spasovski.

Regarding the arrest of several individuals linked to ISIS in an operation together with the French authorities, the MoI says the fight against terrorism is a long one.

"This case was carried out in cooperation with the National Security Agency and the French authorities, since one of the persons resided in France while two others in North Macedonia. They were arrested in a coordinated operation for taking part in foreign armies or preparing to do so. Institutions will be vigilant in order to ensure that citizens' safety, security and peace remain at the highest level," says Spasovski.
