Belgrade, 11 April 2023 (MIA) - Serbia's Minister for European Integration, Tanja Miščević addressing Tuesday the regional expert meeting said that Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania share experience in the EU accession negotiation process, MIA’s Belgrade correspondent reported.

The regional expert meeting "Let justice rule the region" was organized in Belgrade by the National Convention on European Union in Serbia which was also attended by the coordinator of the National Convention on the EU in Serbia, Bojana Selaković, the coordinator of the National Convention on the EU in North Macedonia, Mileva Gjurovska, the coordinator of the National Convention on the EU in Albania, Gledis Gjipali and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Serbia Theodorus Antonius Reintjes.

Miščević underscored at the meeting that civil society is a balance and a promoter of reforms, which points out new developments to the state, and on the other hand, the state tries to fulfill what is realistically achievable.

“The conventions in the region exist and were given as a proposal that maintained strong presence. The national conventions are a model that we have taken from what is known as Slovakia's experience in the negotiation process,” Miščević said.

She added that from the beginning the role of the conventions was defined as a basic platform, which now counts more than 800 organizations.

“We started to learn from our colleagues how to begin negotiations on Stabilization and Association Agreement, because North Macedonia was the first country in the region to sign a Stabilization and Association Agreement, so in the last few years we have been transferring the experience of the negotiation process,” Miščević said.

She noted that North Macedonia and Albania were the first countries to start negotiations, from the very beginning, according to the new methodology, and that Serbia could learn about the application of the new methodology based on their experience.

“On the other hand, we can help to share the good and bad experiences from the previous work in the negotiaition process between the conventions and the government, how to prepare documents and how to presented in Brussels and what we are trying to learn,” Miščević added.
