Public Prosecutor’s Office to receive new electronic case management system as part of EU project

Skopje, 14 May 2024 (MIA) - The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of North Macedonia is set to receive a new electronic case management system as part of the “EU Support for Rule of Law” project. At a meeting Tuesday, representatives of the project informed Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski about activities planned to be realized as part of the project.

In a press release, the Public Prosecutor’s Office said that the assistance within the project will be focused on drafting the technical specification for the establishment of a new electronic case management system for the Prosecutor’s Office.

“The funds for this significant and complex project, which involves several other institutions in addition to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, are secured through the EU’s IPA III programme. The Public Prosecutor will form a special working group on digitization which will work to determine the functional characteristics of the new system, necessary for the functioning of the Prosecutor’s Office,” the press release said.

The press release also added that domestic and international IT experts are working to upgrade the existing LURIS system for international legal assistance. The upgrade will make the country the first in the region to enable direct electronic connection of the LURIS systems in the Prosecutor’s Office and the Justice Ministry, the press release said.

“The remaining activities of the project include the improvement of laws and by-laws on assessment, control and disciplinary responsibility of public prosecutors; assistance in the training of investigators; contribution in the drafting of the new Strategy for communication and transparency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office; as well as an analysis of the Office’s human resources,” the Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.
