Pendarovski: Elections to decide if Macedonia joins developed world

Delchevo, 9 April 2024 (MIA) - These elections are very important because they will decide if Macedonia moves along the same path towards Europe and the developed world or goes back to the time of the regime, said President Stevo Pendarovski in Delchevo on Tuesday.

"The biggest thing we did during my term, something that required a lot of effort, experience and time, was the agreement we reached with Greece and we finally joined NATO. As I see it, this is our most important accomplishment since 1991," said Pendarovski.

The second important step, he added, was the start of the European Union accession negotiations after 17 years of waiting.

"No one before had the courage to open those negotiations, because all politicians stuck to their posts and power. This political structure that I am part of accepted the negotiating framework that guarantees the Macedonian identity and Macedonian language. It guarantees that the Macedonian name will never perish," said Pendarovski.

He said the opposition has no Plan B, their only goal is to come to power and stay there as long as their mentor Nikola Gruevski.

"The Macedonian citizens don't want a repeat of the tempestuous experience with the 11-year-long regime that blocked the country and harassed its own people," noted Pendarovski.

Earlier in the day, Pendarovski also paid a visit to Makedonska Kamenica, Pehchevo and Berovo.
