Government greenlights opening medical school in Bitola

Skopje, 13 May 2025 (MIA) — At its regular session Tuesday, the government accepted a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Education and Science to open a school of medicine as part of the St. Clement of Ohrid University in Bitola.

According to an official press release, opening a medical school in Bitola "is a strategic necessity for advancing health education" in southwestern parts of the country.

The new school of medicine would provide three or four years of medical education. According to the Ministry of Education proposal, it would open in the 2026-27 academic year, after all procedures under the Law on Higher Education are complete.

"It will take some time to honor the opinions of all relevant institutions, for example, for the Higher Education Accreditation Board to consider the project of establishing the Faculty of Medical Science and Health Care as part of the St. Clement of Ohrid University in Bitola," the release says.

It adds that other procedures include adopting a law on establishing the new medical school and issuing a public call for enrolling students five months before classes start. mr/
