Osmani - Baerbock: Germany is most vocal supporter of our EU path

Skopje, 19 September 2023 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani met on Wednesday with the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Minister Osmani thanked for the loud support to the accession process of the Republic of North Macedonia to the EU, expressed through a series of steps such as, so-called "German" proposal, the key political basis through which today's European package for our European integrations was created, and the adopted resolution in the German Bundestag, which reaffirms Macedonian identity and language on our country's path to the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

“Such step is another act of friendly Germany's support for the European future of our country and an additional guarantee of the identity issues of North Macedonia, which are already recognized by the European Union,” Osmani noted.

According to the press release, Baerbock conveyed messages of support for our country’s European integration process, and recognition for the progress achieved in fulfilling the negotiation framework.

According to her, with the opening of the chapters, our position towards the EU becomes stronger, assuring at the same time that German support for our European path will continue in the future.

Osmani and Baerbock voiced satisfaction with the development of the excellent relations between the two friendly countries, which this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as the assurance that they will continue to work dedicatedly in the future to promote the Macedonian-German partnership.

According to the press release, they hailed the economic cooperation, whose dynamics continuously shows an upward trend. “Germany is a key economic partner in the overall development of North Macedonia and for a long time it is the largest trade partner and among the largest foreign investors in the country,” the ministers stated.

Osmani and Baerbock shared views regarding the current political and security situation in the Western Balkan countries, and they discussed the cooperation and challenges within the framework of 2023 OSCE Chairpersonship of North Macedonia.
