MoF, PPO sign memo on protection of EU's financial interests in country

Skopje, 21 June 2023 (MIA) - The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Public Prosecutor's Office (PPO) signed Wednesday a memorandum for enhancement of interagency cooperation towards preventing irregularities, fraud, corruption and other illegal activities against the European Union's financial interests in the country.

Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi and State Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski signed the memorandum, the MoF said in a press release.

The initiative for signing such memoranda with key institutions in the field of protecting the financial interests follows the good practice within EU member-states, establishing solid coordination of the system for protection of the Union's financial interests.

The memos are developed within the IPA twinning project on strengthening budget planning, execution and internal control functions, supported by experts from Croatia and Latvia.

"I believe coordination among key institutions will strengthen cooperation in the field of protecting the financial interests, especially through information exchange, training and education, sharing of best practices through participation at joint meetings, as well as raising the public awareness through communication in the field of preventing irregularities and fraud, as well as coordination towards avoiding overlapping of activities," said Minister Besimi.
