Skopje, 23 January 2024 (MIA) – At a press conference Tuesday, Minister of Information Society and Administration, Azir Aliu, invited MPs to discuss ‘as early as tomorrow’ all dilemmas they might have over a set of laws proposed by the Ministry, which, he said, have been adopted by the Government more than a month ago, but remain stuck in Parliament.

The laws in question are related to public administration, digitization, and media, which the Ministry had been working on for a while, and which, according to Aliu, are crucial and essential to making the lives of the citizens easier. He said they are related to the three pillars – administration, digitization, and media – of the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, over which North Macedonia signed an association agreement in the summer.

“The draft-laws represent the operationalization of the tasks undertaken by our country. These laws are still blocked, and, honestly, I don’t know the reason why they are stuck… I invite the MPs as early as tomorrow at 10am, to discuss all dilemmas over these laws that will lead to essential changes, making the lives of our citizens easier. Over the past period, MISA has been working on a set of laws in order to improve the legislation for public administration reform, in line with the EU standards. Despite being adopted by the Government more than a month ago, the postponement of their adoption in Parliament obstructs the necessary public administration reform, which is a main requirement for the EU. We don’t have any more time to lose, we need reforms now and immediately,” said Aliu.

At the press conference, the Minister confirmed that he spoke with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, who told him that the laws will be on the agenda of Parliament’s plenary session on Tuesday.

The Minister, who comes from the ranks of the Alliance for Albanians, kicked off his press conference with the message that “there can be no system if it depends on the willingness and conditions of individuals” and “the Macedonian system will either reform or collapse”.
