Mexhiti: VLEN has remarks about Ilire Dauti’s work, but doesn’t support initiatives by Levica

Skopje, 13 January 2025 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti, asked about the no-confidence motion against chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Ilire Dauti, said his party, VLEN, has remarks about her work, but doesn’t support initiatives submitted by Levica.

“I confirm that Ilire Dauti was the chairwoman of the Committee and she will remain chairwoman of the Committee. We might have a lot of remarks about Dauti, but when the initiative is by Levica we oppose it and that’s why we support her [Dauti],” Mexhiti said.

Regarding the motions of no confidence submitted by the European Front against four members of the Government, which didn’t receive the necessary votes in Parliament on Friday, Mexhiti said they are the “worst or least voted for” in the history of the Parliament.

“To submit a motion of no confidence for only three MPs to vote in the end shows that we have support from within the European Front and even within DUI and many people there share our opinions and VLEN’s door is open to them,” Mexhiti said in answer to a journalist’s question.

Regarding the vote on the motion against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Inter-Community Relations Ivan Stoilkovikj, Mexhiti said VLEN’s MPs weren’t present during the vote, noting their absence was a “political message”.

At a session Friday, Parliament discussed four motions of no confidence against members of the Government submitted by the European Front, and a motion of no confidence against the chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Ilire Dauti from the European Front, which was submitted by Levica. The MPs dismissed the four motions and adopted the one against Dauti.

In a media statement, Dauti stressed that the motion adopted by Parliament last Friday means either her dismissal or having “to act under Levica and VMRO-DPMNE's dictate”.

“The motion adopted in Parliament means either I get dismissed or have to act under Levica and VMRO-DPMNE's dictate. Faced with the choice of losing the post of chair of the Committee and acting under dictate, due to the conditions outlined by Levica and proposed as a conclusion by Afrim Gashi, there are no doubts that I will accept the freedom to act as an MP, as I have done so far, freely and independently. All citizens should be able to do so, regardless of our differences,” Dauti said.
