Kovachevski: WB notes most robust crisis management support in region
Skopje, 25 October 2022 (MIA) – The World Bank report on the Western Balkans notes that North Macedonia has the most robust support regarding the crisis management in the region, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Tuesday. PM Kovachevski said two sets of measures have been passed in 2022 – the first in the amount of EUR 400 million and the pending worth EUR 360 million. “Considering the lowered growth rates and rising inflation across the globe, the World Bank and other financial institutions recommend that anti-crisis measures are targeted, which is the case with our measures and their focus on the most vulnerable groups,” said Kovachevski. He added that 41,000 most vulnerable citizens and 135,000 low-income pensioners have been targeted, along with electricity subsidies for all citizens and small consumers. “On industry, the Ministry of Economy is doing the calculations and the Minister met with all food producers. The objective is to subsidize electricity that will result in both stopping the price hikes of basic food products, but also in a price drop if possible,” said Kovachevski. The PM expects all details regarding the measures to be available after Wednesday’s visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, since the package is created in compliance with EU measures and in consultation with business chambers.
