Kostadinovska-Stojchevska: North Macedonia joins Baukultur Alliance

Skopje, 16 January 2023 (MIA) – The founding of the Baukultur Alliance 2023 is good news for North Macedonia, and it will represent a network that will initiate cooperation between the public and the private sector, with everyone benefitting from the results, said Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska on the second day of the ministerial conference focused on the Baukultur Alliance 2023 in Davos.

“By becoming members of the Baukultur Alliance 2023, we are undertaking a responsibility – to act responsibly towards the right of all people to live and create in a humane environment. Everyone has the right to make money, but not to profit on the back of the mental health and social life of the people. This is not a business with economic benefits for everyone, but rather corruption with bad consequences for everyone,” said Minister Kostadinovska-Stojchevska.

According to the Ministry of Culture, at the meeting the Minister stressed that North Macedonia has a rich cultural heritage that defines its present and is a part of the cultural identity of Europe as well.

“This is why I am extending a hand, because we have a lot of work to do together. The Macedonian cultural heritage is an inseparable part and a testimony of every historical epoch of the European continent,” said Kostadinovska-Stojchevska.

The Minister assessed that many aspects of the 2018 Declaration on Baukultur have been implemented in the domestic strategies and announced that she will initiate the establishment of a Baukultur Department within the Ministry of Culture as soon as possible.

At the conference in Davos, a joint statement on the recovery and rebuilding of Ukraine was adopted as well, with North Macedonia offering its support for the statement.

Baukultur sees the entire designed living environment as a coherent whole, from existing buildings to contemporary design, from small handcrafted details to buildings and open spaces to large-scale infrastructures, and from the planning process through construction and operation to reuse. ad/sk/
