European affairs minister Murtezani meets with MEPs in Brussels

Brussels, 4 February 2025 (MIA) - Firm support by the European Parliament for the European future of North Macedonia was expressed at Tuesday’s meetings in Brussels between Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani and members of the European Parliament Thijs Reuten and Matej Tonin, who are the EP’s shadow rapporteurs for North Macedonia, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.
At the meetings, the MEPs highlighted the significance of reforms and the dynamic of the accession process, as well as the need to establish stable relations with all EU member states.
Interlocutors stressed the continuation of the country’s integration path depends on joint efforts and a constructive approach to the efforts to resolve the challenges on the European path.
Minister Murtezani expressed gratitude for the continued support and underscored the country’s commitment to the European agenda. He noted that the country remains an active partner in the accession process and expects a predictable and fair approach by the European Union.
During his two-day visit to Brussels, Murtezani is also expected to meet with the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos; the chair of the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee and Croatian MEP, Karlo Ressler; the Managing Director for Europe at the European External Action Service (EEAS), Matti Maasikas; and the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Oliver Röpke.
The meetings are expected to discuss the country’s progress in the EU accession process, the reform agenda, the next steps in the negotiation process, cooperation with the European institutions, as well as political and security challenges in the region and the geopolitical aspects of the enlargement process.
