Europe minister: Constitutional changes only after ending is known
- Minister of European Affairs and Chief Negotiator with the European Union Orhan Murtezani in Tetovo on Monday said the state would implement the constitutional changes -- required for the country to open the chapters of its membership negotiations with the EU -- only after it received assurances that this would ultimately result in EU membership, MIA's Tetovo correspondent reports.
Tetovo, 4 November 2024 (MIA) -- Minister of European Affairs and Chief Negotiator with the European Union Orhan Murtezani in Tetovo on Monday said the state would implement the constitutional changes -- required for the country to open the chapters of its membership negotiations with the EU -- only after it received assurances that this would ultimately result in EU membership, MIA's Tetovo correspondent reports.
Murtezani said top international officials in their public appearances were pointing out that the country had undertaken the obligation to adopt constitutional changes as part of its EU integration process.
"The European Commission's report, too, notes the constitutional change obligation so we can start negotiating," the chief negotiator with the EU said.
"Prime Minister [Hristijan] Mickoski and I have said on several occassions that we have no issue with the constitutional changes in essence.
"However, we want to make sure that the constitutional changes will not merely open the negotiations process but that this process will have an ending. The moment we see the process has been made secure, the constitutional changes may start being implemented," he said. mr/
