Energy transition and green agenda a priority for Western Balkans: summit

Skopje, 16 October 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski took part at a session on the green and digital transition of the Western Balkans within the Berlin Process Leaders Summit in Tirana on Monday.

Through the prism of the joint declaration on a regional climate partnership between the Western Balkans and Germany, discussions tackled climate change and its damaging effects, an issue that needs to be resolved through broad regional and international cooperation, the Government said in a press release.

Leaders exchanged positions on challenges that Western Balkans countries are facing over implementation of the European Green Deal that includes zero fossil fuel emissions by 2050. They highlighted the importance to invest efforts and finance projects that ensure energy transition and regional actions that represent another stimulus for faster EU membership.

North Macedonia is committed to the goal of being a climate-neutral country by 2050, working together with the EU on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. The country will continue to develop its capacities for programming, planning and implementation of green investments, as well as awareness raising on investments in green infrastructure.

Panel participants also exchanged positions on the global climate agenda amid geopolitical uncertainty, reads the press release.
