Earth Day marked under the theme 'We invest in knowledge – we take care of the planet'

Skopje, 20 April 2023 (MIA) – The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning set up an exhibition of posters made by students in the GLOBE program and a practical demonstration of GLOBE protocols to mark Earth Day, celebrated this year under the theme We invest in knowledge – we take care of the planet.

At the event, the Ministry's officials briefed attending students on the work of the state automated monitoring system to monitor the air quality, and spoke about the necessity and benefits of regular and timely monitoring of the quality of the environmental media.

“This event confirms our commitment to implement the GLOBE Program, an exceptionally important and noble mission in two areas of key importance for our future – environmental protection through getting to know it and education of younger generations, because they are the main actors in the changes that lead to a quality life and a preserved environment they will inherit from us,” said Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Kaja Shukova.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Skopje, Eric Meyer, also addressed the event noting he is optimistic about the country’s future seeing the talented students, and adding that investing in the planet is investing in such talented students.

Eighteen schools were given infrared contactless thermometers as a donation from the Environment Ministry.

The GLOBE Program is an international environmental protection program that combines science, education and technology at an international level in order for the students to learn about the environment. dk/nn/
