Bilateral screening on Cluster 3 - Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth resumes in Brussels

Skopje, 6 June 2023 (MIA) – Bilateral screening meetings on Cluster 3: Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth and Chapter 17: Economic and Monetary Policy resume Tuesday in Brussels.

The Secretariat for European Affairs (SEA) said the working group on Chapter 19, headed by deputy chief EU negotiator Drita Abdiu-Halili, presented the current economic situation in North Macedonia and ongoing fiscal and structural reforms.

Abdiu-Halili before the representatives of the European Commission, said that the country "continually achieves significant results through the applications of the pre-accession economic programmes, and more recently from the programs for economic reforms."

At the meeting, Abdiu-Halili referred to some of the reforms that we have implemented, stressing that the adopted Budget Law, which is in accordance with the Directive of the EU Council and that the Government will remain focused on creating policies, which, “will help us to undertake the obligations arising from the membership of the economic and monetary union."

“We are committed to improving public finances and promoting effective economic policies. Alignment with EU regulations is in an advanced stage and our main priority is strengthening the institutional and financial independence of the National Bank,” Abdiu-Halili added.

SEA added that the working group on this chapter is made up of representatives of the Ministry of Finance, National Bank of North Macedonia, Ministry of Economy, State Statistical Office, State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and the Secretariat for European Affairs, reads the press release.

The bilateral screening meeting on Chapter 29: Customs Union will kick off Wednesday and will last for two days.
