Skopje, 27 June 2022 (MIA) – The Parliament on Monday adopted amendments to the Law on Trade, under which all retailers and wholesalers in tourist places, as defined under the Law on Tourism, will be able to work on Sundays and Public holidays, Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi posted on Facebook.
According to the Minister, the amendments to the Law on Trade are expected to further stimulate economic activity in the country, particularly in tourist places.
“Given the State Statistical Office’s data on increase in the number of tourists since the beginning of the year, as well as bookings made by foreign tourists for this tourist season in North Macedonia, particularly Ohrid and Struga, in line with the legal changes we expect an increase in tourist activity in the whole country,” Bekteshi’s post reads.
The Minister adds that the amendments to the Law on Trade have been adopted through joint dialogue in an inclusive process with all stakeholders, particularly in the tourism sector. In addition, workers in trade facilities that will be working on Sundays and public holidays will get 100 percent higher daily wage.
The amendments will take effect as soon as they are published in the Official Gazette.
