VMRO-DPMNE’s Mickoski meets DUI leader to discuss Bulgaria dispute, snap elections
Skopje, 16 December 2021 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday he met with DUI leader Ali Ahmeti for one-hour talks on the dispute with Bulgaria and early parliamentary elections. “Discussing the dispute with our eastern neighbor, I reiterated our principled stance that the resolution passed by the Parliament should be respected. I voiced by concern with the fact that the more we abandon our negotiating positions, the more Bulgaria will increase its demands. It ruins the country’s negotiating position,” Mickoski told reporters after the meeting. The principle of servility must be abandoned, he stressed. “We must demonstrate character, this is my message. Enough with being humiliated. Many concessions were made in the past 30 years of independence and yet we are still unable to start the negotiations,” Mickoski said. According to the opposition leader, early parliamentary elections should be held as soon as possible. “At the moment, VMRO-DPMNE is the largest parliamentary group having a majority of mayors and councilors, meaning we have the political right and credibility to demand early parliamentary elections, because we won the local elections,” Mickoski told reporters.
