VMRO-DPMNE leader Mickoski calls on opposition to unite to topple the government
Skopje, 19 October 2021 (MIA) - The VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition won more votes for seats in municipal councils than the SDSM-led coalition, 55,000 more votes, which constitutes landslide win and a clear message to the government as well as huge responsibility for the opposition, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday. He called on all opposition parties, including left-wing, right-wing, and center, to join forces for the second round of the 2021 local election, saying that they share the same goal “to topple the government.” The opposition leader also sought support from voters in the runoff in the joint mission. “Sunday’s elections showed that there is serious anti-government sentiment, and the votes for the opposition mean a new future of Macedonia. I call on the opposition to unite to reach the goal together for better and new future,” Mickoski said after meeting the leaders of the parties as part of the “For Renewal of Macedonia” coalition. “I offer my hand to the opposition to unite and this is what the people want in these elections,” he told reporters. Mickoski also called on voters to hit the polls in the second round in great numbers, because “mobilization and high turnout is the only way to topple the government.” He said he expected the second round, scheduled on October 31, to be marred by the same incidents as the first round, including vote buying, ballot stuffing, intimidation of voters, etc.
