Skopje, 22 September 2023 (MIA) – Democratic Union leader Pavle Trajanov said late Friday that a new amnesty law is being prepared in order to secure votes for the constitutional amendments.

“It is being prepared by the SDSM and DUI. Experts, prosecutors, lawyers are included... An overview of criminal offenses for which former public office holders were tried was made, all criminal offenses related to those convicted related to the events of 27 April 2017 are included. In addition, probably there are criminal offenses that cover some of the current public office holders for which a procedure is being conducted,” Trajanov told Kanal 5 TV.

According to Trajanov, this law will cover all the cases opened by the Special Prosecutor's Office, those convicted for the events of April 27, as well as some of the officials from the current government against whom criminal proceedings are being conducted.

The SDSM denied that such a law is being prepared.

“Neither Gruevski nor any of the criminals from VMRO-DPMNE will escape justice. I absolutely do not agree that anyone thinks wants or would support amnesty for the crimes committed by VMRO-DPMNE officials for 11 years,” Nenad Kocikj from SDSM told Kanal 5 TV.
