Skopje, 4 June 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova refuses to comment on the daily threats from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of a possible veto on the country's European integration due to, as he claims, her disrespect of the Prespa Agreement.
“I refrain from commenting on Mr. Mitsotakis's messages. The Prespa Agreement contains mechanisms, ranging from notifications to addressing the Secretary-General of the United Nations. There's also the option to initiate proceedings before the International Court of Justice, whose ruling Greece failed to respect,” Siljanovska Davkova told reporters prior to the start of the panel discussion “The European Union as a challenge and the challenges of the EU: Europe 74 years since the Schuman Declaration” organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the European Movement.
That, as she stated, is a mechanism that exists and is guaranteed in the decision-making process of every member of the European Union.
“I cannot prevent that. The Prespa Agreement is part of the negotiating framework, but I don't think it's in the spirit of developing friendly relations. I believe that even in traditional diplomacy, it might be good to shift our focus to cultural diplomacy, where problems are resolved differently. I think that we, with our neighbors, could try to behave differently in a friendly spirit and perhaps be a bit more like Scandinavians,” Siljanovska Davkova said.
