No intention to activate procedure for violation of Prespa Agreement for now: Greek FM

Athens, 20 May 2024 (MIA) - There is no intention to activate the procedure for the violation of the Prespa Agreement for now, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis told reporters after a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Monday, when he was asked about a potential Greek initiative to activate Article 19 of the Agreement referring to the settlement of disputes, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

“Both Greece and North Macedonia are obliged to respect international law and the international tasks they have accepted. Greece is strictly following the compliance of what has been agreed. The Government of North Macedonia still hasn’t been sworn in, so we will wait to see the events. There is no intention to activate the procedure for the violation of the Agreement for now. These issues will be assessed by the Greek diplomacy, as well as by the European Union within the frameworks of North Macedonia’s integration process,” Gerapetritis said.
