MoI registers five additional cases of voters photographing ballots

Skopje, 24 April 2024 (MIA) - In a press release, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said it has registered five additional instances of voters photographing their ballot during Wednesday’s election day at polling stations in Radovish, Skopje, Ohrid and Berovo. Earlier in the day MoI informed about two other such cases.

“At 11:10 am, in the village of Kodzhalija, in the Municipality of Radovish, in polling station 1602, S.A. from Kodzhalija photographed his ballot. Around 12:15 am, at polling station number 2683/1 in Skopje, A.S. (40) from Skopje photographed his ballot. Actions are being taken to clear up the cases,” the Ministry said.

The Ministry also registered an instance in Ohrid around 12:15 am when A.I. (48) photographed his ballot at polling station number 1271, after which he was detained by the police. The police also detained D.T. (42) from Berovo who photographed his ballot at polling station 0006, around 12:35 am.

An additional case was registered in Skopje at 1:57 pm, at polling station 2555, where S.S. photographed his ballot.

At a press conference earlier on Wednesday,  MoI spokesperson Toni Angelovski said the Ministry hasn’t registered any serious disruptions of public peace and order during the vote, which, he said, “is generally peaceful and without issues.”

At the press conference, Angelovski informed about two other instances of voters photographing their ballots in Shtip and in Skopje. Additionally, in a polling station in the village of Buchim, the president of the election board reported that an individual showed his ballot to one of the observers.

The MoI spokesperson also said there were instances of pamphlets related to the electoral process being left on parked vehicles in Skopje’s Chair municipality, as well as graffiti in two locations in Skopje.
