Kovachevski: Our generation has task not to give up on European dream of better and prosperous country

Skopje, 4 May 2024 (MIA) - Our generation has the task not to give up on the country's European dream and do everything for Macedonia to become an equal member of the European Union, SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski told a rally of the Coalition for European Future in Kichevo on Saturday.

Kovachevski pointed out that today, when observing the 121st death anniversary of Macedonian revolutionary, ideologist and teacher Goce Delchev, it is important to remember that throughout history our people did not give up even in the face of the most difficult challenges.

He pointed out that May 8 is a new historical crossroads, a day when all the progressive and democratic forces in the country should decide that the country will resolutely continue on the path to the European Union.

"That is the only way we build a better and prosperous country for future generations, a country with a European standard of living, European values, European rules of the game," said Kovachevski.

He said that the mistake of the past must not be repeated when the media were captured and investments were made in monuments instead of infrastructural projects.

"We must not repeat the mistake of the past and give too much power in the hands of a right-wing party like VMRO DPMNE. The wounds they inflicted on the country during their 11-year rule of Macedonia are still fresh. Think of the media capture, the silenced public sector employees, the battered students in libraries and squares. Remember the millions spent on willow trees, fake baroque buildings, cheap styrofoam just so  individuals from VMRO - DPMNE get rich," Kovachevski said.

The SDSM leader promised before the citizens of Kichevo higher wages and pensions, packages to support pupils and students, responsible social policy and fight against crime and corruption.
