Skopje, 17 August 2023 (MIA) - I do not expect anything spectacular to happen during the parliamentary session on Friday. Even during the adoption of the session’s agenda, the ruling majority, that is the Government of SDSM and DUI, will see of having no two-thirds majority to push this process. I expect that there will be no additional political gymnastics and the only legitimate topic will be the holding of early parliamentary elections, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said late Thursday.

Speaking to Sitel TV, he mentioned that they will hold a coordination meeting prior to the start of the session, but believes that the Government will not garner the majority vote to push this process. He also noted that one of the MPs of the coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE will address the session.

According to Mickoski, even if the Bulgarians are added in the preamble, and we receive guarantees of identity, however, the protocol and the bilateral agreement pose a risk for additional obstacles in the future, that is, additional veto, additional identity and historical interventionism.

“Who guarantees us, if we do this, that we will be a member state of the EU? Who came here to tell us that he guarantees us? On the contrary, many have come to tell us that they do not guarantee us. That is a trivial dilemma. Turkey has been negotiating for 40 years. Montenegro and Serbia have been negotiating for 12 years,” Mickoski said.

Asked what VMRO-DPMNE would do if it came to power, Mickoski noted that they would seek guarantees by which European institutions would clearly and unequivocally confirm Macedonian identity, history, culture and the Macedonian language.
