Skopje, 16 December 2024 (MIA) - Eight new investments worth over EUR 700 million have been launched in less than six months, opening about 2,800 potential jobs, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski after a meeting with the Foreign Investors' Council on Monday.
PM Mickoski said investments directly contribute to stimulation of economic growth and local economic development.
"The goal is to reach EUR 1 billion of foreign direct investments by the end of the year, which I believe is attainable, making the country a regional leader in FDI per capita and among front-runners in Europe," said Mickoski.
The meeting also discussed the alignment with the global minimum tax.
"We are discussing the tax that needs to be aligned with the Macedonian legislation. I believe it is fair towards Macedonian citizens that companies that make profit here pay five percent more than the 10-percent flat tax into the budget," said Mickoski.
Foreign Investors' Council president Viktor Mizo praised institutions over their response to the ideas and remarks provided by businesses, while noting that the global minimum tax would affect 50 companies in the country.
"Today's meeting also tackled the harmonization of customs rates and further alignment with EU customs duties, law on foreigners, work and residence permits, digitization of the process and the setup of international accounting standards," said Mizo.
