Skopje, 7 March 2024 (MIA) – The Electricity Transmission System Operator of the Republic of North Macedonia (MEPSO) said it is dealing with a cyberattack, but stressed in a press release Thursday that the integrity of the power grid and the supply of electricity have not been threatened.
The state-owned company said its critical energy infrastructure was not the target of the attack and it remains secure and fully functional.
“At a time when the whole world is facing a negative global trend of cyberattacks, our company didn’t remain immune to this either. Even though AD MEPSO has taken all measures meant to protect against cyberattacks at the highest level, we faced incidents of this kind in recent days. Considering that the core activity of AD MEPSO is the transmission of electricity and management of the electric power system, we would like to inform the public that the critical energy infrastructure remains secure, fully functional, and was not the target of the cyberattack. This means that the complete integrity of the power grid and the supply of electricity have not been threatened,” said MEPSO in a press release.
MEPSO said they reported the incident to all relevant institutions in line with the cybersecurity regulations.
“Our team has taken all measures to mitigate the effects of the cyberattack and, together with experts in the field, is working to normalize the everyday functioning of the company,” said the press release.
