Skopje, 10 May 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Justice Krenar Lloga held a meeting Wednesday with the President of the Association of Judges, Xhemaili Saiti, and the President of the Judicial Ethics Advisory Body, Shpend Devaja, during which they discussed the conditions in the judiciary and the current events in the Judicial Council.
In a press release, the Ministry of Justice said that at the meeting Lloga, Saiti and Devaja agreed on the need for urgent legal interventions in the Law on Judicial Council and the need to establish visible and efficient mechanisms for determining possible responsibility, i.e., dismissing Judicial Council members, while at the same time promoting mechanisms for judicial self-regulation by strengthening the role of the Association of Judges.
“Saiti informed Lloga about the current activities of the Association of Judges regarding the independence and autonomy of the judiciary, as well as the Association’s position regarding the low trust and the measures taken to improve it,” said the Ministry of Justice.
Minister Lloga presented his positions on these and other issues related to the efficiency and independence of the judicial system, while focusing on the new Strategy, which is currently being drafted, and the issues it covers.
“The Minister underscored the need for increased efforts by the judges to gain the trust of the citizens and the need for continuous improvements of the legislation, which would contribute to the efforts to register possible legal inconsistencies in the actions of the judges and the judicial bodies,” said the Ministry of Justice.
